As a birth worker and the mother of 2 small children, I have learned much about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting.
One avenue that I have explored during my life journey is the beauty of pregnant women and their strength during birth. My passion for birth unfolded when I learned about midwives and decided to work towards my certification. I was introduced to the doula community by a friend, and have found my calling – to support women, emotionally and physically, throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Through the doula community in Chicago, I have seen the caring and compassion that makes great doulas.
I have worked with pregnant and postpartum women and continue to learn by attending workshops, doing intensive self-study, writing, learning from experienced mentors and mothers, and listening to and working with pregnant and new mothers.
I am a DONA International Certified Doula. I believe in a family’s choices about their birth. I support a woman’s right to informed choices regarding her birth. I am a Birthing From Within mentor offering childbirth classes in Chicago. I mentor women and their partners to prepare for childbirth through self-discovery, as well as to learn practical information about birth, parenting a new baby, and your changing relationships. The purpose of Birthing From Within is to prepare mothers to give birth-in-awareness, not to achieve a specific outcome.
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, working with all populations but specializing in pre- and post-natal massage.
Previously I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan, where I met and fell madly in love with my husband Jason. He is my biggest support in my birth work and parenting journey – doula to the doula.
